Sun
World International, LLC. operates one of the
world's largest fruit breeding programs. Our
Research and Development Center has authored more than
100 plant patents on which more than 250 registered trademarks
are used to identify and promote these fruit varieties around
the world. Sun World table grapes, peaches, plums,
nectarines, and apricots are grown commercially or in trials
under license by growers on 10,000 acres on five continents. By
building a network of like-minded nurseries, growers and
marketers our Licensing Department coordinates distribution of Sun World
cultivars so that quality
remains high, production is limited, and FOB prices remain
strong. Sun World licensees become part of the Sun World
Fruit Alliance.
Sun
World's licensing program aims to achieve
organized, year-round production and maximized returns for its
outstanding stone fruit and table grape varieties through
licenses with selected growers.
Sun World's most promising
cultivars are sent into the major table grape and stone fruit
growing countries. Once they have cleared quarantine (1-2
years), they are sent to qualified producer and nursery
organizations under local conditions. Then, the best
selections are multiplied/propagated in a nursery setting (1-2
years) and then distributed to licensed producers, where the
trees and vines are grown to maturity. Harvested fruit, in
turn, is marketed in a controlled manner, under valuable
trademarks such as BLACK DIAMOND® brand plums and MIDNIGHT
BEAUTY® brand grapes.
Sun World fruit varieties are
produced under license in many of the world's key fruit
producing countries. Licensing relationships have been
established in the United States, Spain, South Africa, Namibia,
Morocco, Chile, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, and
France. In these countries, qualified nurseries and
producers are licensed to propagate and produce proprietary
plum, peach, nectarine, apricot, and table grape cultivars.
